Lauren began training in the Bujinkan in October, 1996 in New York. In April, 2002, Lauren began training at the Muzosa Bujinkan Dojo of New York City under Jeff Christian, 13th dan, and Rob Flanagan, 9th dan. Lauren received the rank of godan (5th degree black belt) from Grandmaster Hatsumi in November, 2005.
